This interdisciplinary project brings together faculty from all three NYU campuses to develop advanced planning frameworks for decarbonized urban transportation systems. By integrating electric and hydrogen bus fleets with a novel NYU-developed hybrid energy storage/hydrogen generation technology, the team aims to optimize infrastructure deployment and operational logistics under uncertainty. Their two-stage stochastic model incorporates real-world constraints from energy and transportation networks and leverages AI, dimensionality reduction, and quantum computing techniques for large-scale optimization. Early collaboration has led to model development, integration of experimental data, and plans for realistic case studies.
