Position Summary
NYU Shanghai's Computer Science program is seeking Part-time Teaching Associates for the Spring 2026 semester, which runs from January to the end of May. This position is based in Shanghai, China, and requires approximately 16-20 hours of work per week, including teaching and academic support responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist professors with undergraduate computer science courses such as Introduction to Computer Science and Data Science, Machine Learning, and more
- Prepare teaching materials, labs, and assignments
- Grade homework and exams
- Lead recitations, quizzes, and discussions
- Hold regular office hours and provide one-on-one support to students
- Manage and respond to course-related emails
- Maintain and update course material webpages
- Act as a liaison between students and professors
Requirements
- Commitment to 16-20 hours per week, from January 19 to May 25, 2026
- Enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program in Computer Science or a related field (preferred)
- Teaching experience in Computer Science or related courses in English (preferred)
- Extensive knowledge of the discipline
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages (e.g., C++, Java, Python)
- Excellent command of spoken and written English
- Passion for higher education and teaching
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt

Qualifications
We seek faculty candidates at all levels, with a preference for mid-career faculty, who have completed a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics or a closely related discipline. We invite applications from candidates in all areas and have a special interest in those with expertise broadly in AI for Health/Education, Systems, Theory, and Human-AI/Computer Interaction that will supplement and complement our current interdisciplinary clusters in machine learning, theory and AI.

The NYU Shanghai Center for Data Science is currently inviting applications for several postdoctoral fellowship positions from candidates with research interests in machine learning and data science, particularly in deep learning (DL) and artificial intelligence. We seek candidates who have completed a PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment. Recent PhDs in mathematics or computational science who are interested in changing fields are also encouraged to apply.
The main scientific themes include theories and applications of deep learning and AI:
- Deep learning paradigms and algorithms
- Computer vision
- Natural Language Processing
- Deep reinforcement learning
- Quantum machine learning
- Mathematical theory of deep learning and AI, optimization theory for machine learning
- Applications of deep learning, including but not limited to neuroscience, health care, transportation and smart cities, life sciences, physical sciences, business, and finance
The postdocs will work closely with faculty mentors, and will interact with groups at NYU Shanghai. The postdocs are expected to present their work in seminars and related workshops or conferences. Teaching is not required, but opportunities exist for those who are interested in teaching experience. One or two-year renewable appointments are available.
